Trevoh Chalobah, Riyad Mahrez react as Crystal Palace exit confirmed

Crystal Palace have announced that the club will bid farewell to another of their long-serving players at the end of this season.

It has already been confirmed that Joel Ward will leave after 13 years at Selhurst Park this summer, and he is not the only one who is set to move on.

Earlier this month, victory for Crystal Palace over Man City in the FA Cup final ended the club’s long wait for a major trophy.

However, not every member of the squad who earned a medal as part of that success was at Wembley to see it.

Jeffrey Schlupp moves on after Celtic loan

Back in January, Jeffrey Schlupp made substitute appearance for the Eagles in their third round win over Stockport County, ensuring he was eligible for a medal as part of their FA Cup triumph.

Shortly after that though, Schlupp joined Celtic on loan until the end of the season, after largely struggling for game time in Oliver Glasner’s side this season.

During his time in Glasgow, the versatile wide man helped the Bhoys to comfortably secure the Scottish Premiership title.

At times, some Celtic fans have called for Schlupp to be signed permanently, and they may get a chance to make that happen.

Crystal Palace have now confirmed that the 32-year-old will leave the club this summer, after eight-and-a-half years at Selhurst Park.

Reacting to the club’s announcement of that exit on Instagram, Trevoh Chalobah – who spent the first half of this season on loan with the Eagles – showed his support by liking the post.

Riyad Mahrez, who is a former teammate of Schlupp’s from their time together at Leicester City would also do the same.

Football Insider Verdict

In the wake of their success this season, it is now going to be a hugely significant summer at Selhurst Park.

Victory in the FA Cup means Crystal Palace are set to compete in the Europa League next season, meaning they need to put together a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.

They will therefore have to move others on to make room for those new recruits, and given he has already been loaned out and with his contract expiring this summer, Schlupp is an obvious candidate.

Even so, he will not be short on options elsewhere, with Football Insider reporting that Leicester are interested in re-signing Schlupp this summer.

Celtic may also be keen after his loan spell there, and so the 32-year-old may be looking at some exciting opportunities now his time at Crystal Palace is over.
