Tug-of-war over 22-year-old delays completion of Celtic's £1million attacker deal - report
By Harvey Byrne
A tug-of-war over Celtic youngster Ryan Christie has delayed the Hoops from completing the signing of attacker Jonny Hayes in a £1million deal from Aberdeen, according to a report.
The Daily Mail has claimed that the 22-year-old is the only thing in between Hayes completing a deal to Glasgow with the Dons wanting to sign Christie as part of a player-plus-cash agreement.
But, Celtic are unwilling to agree to those terms and it is stated that the Hoops do not want to let the emerging right-winger leave on a permanent basis, and will only let him return to Aberdeen in a loan deal.
The former Scotland Under-21 international spent the second half of the last campaign on loan at the Dons, where he played 15 times, returning seven goals and three assists.
He has also made 13 senior appearances for Celtic, but he has returned just two goals and one assist in his outings for the Hoops.

Christie is being tipped to have a bright future and while Hayes impressed for the second placed Dons in the last campaign with a fine 24 assists and 11 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions Celtic are unlikely to let their player go on a permanent basis.
However, it is also stated by the Mail report that despite the hold-up in the move, Hayes is still expected to remain at Parkhead this summer.
Football Insider verdict:
Both Hayes and Christie are clearly talented players and the pair impressed at Aberdeen last season. Celtic should definite do all that they can to ensure they have both midfielders contracted to the club in the next campaign and being Scotland’s biggest and most dominant club at this moment in time the Hoops certainly have all the power in this deal. Therefore, Celtic should consider allowing Aberdeen to have Christie on a temporary loan basis to aid his development further and then he will be able to come back and replace Hayes, who is 29, as he nears the final years of his professional career.
