Ryan Kent is waiting in Liverpool to find out if he is set to fly to either Glasgow or Bruges for a medical, Football Insider understands.
Rangers are in pole position to sign the winger, 22, on a permanent deal for around £7million but Belgian outfit Club Brugges remain in the race at this point.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club are pulling out all the stops to get the Kent deal over the finish line ahead of the Scottish window cut-off tonight.
They are yet to reach an agreement with Liverpool, who can offer their academy product the alternative option of a deadline-day move to the Jupiler League.
Kent has his heart set on a move to Rangers but he could yet be denied what would be the club’s biggest financial outlay on a player in nearly 20 years.
He is playing the waiting game following a summer in which he has had to remain extremely patient to secure a permanent transfer from Anfield.
Steven Gerrard has made no secret of his desire to re-sign Kent, who made such a big impact on loan last season and finished with the Scottish young player of the year award.
