Two more Sunderland stars could quit after Dobson exit confirmed - Phillips
Sunderland could move on “one of two” more fringe players this summer following the departure of George Dobson.
That is the view of Stadium of Light legend Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 23-year-old’s exit last week.
Charlton Athletic confirmed the signing of Dobson on July 1st on a two-year deal.
It comes after the Black Cats mutually terminated the midfielder’s contract, which was not due to expire until the summer of 2022.
Dobson is the eighth confirmed exit from the Stadium of Light in this window.
Max Power, Josh Scowen, Callum McFadzean, Remi Matthews, Conor McLaughlin, Chris Maguire and Grant Leadbitter have also departed.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Dobson’s exit, Phillips said: “He didn’t really get much of a look in.
“I think it was time for a change because he has been there a while now.
“Johnson knows it is time for Sunderland to move some of these players on. He needs to bring his own players in. It hasn’t worked over the past few seasons with that crop of players so change is needed.
“I’m not surprised to see Dobson go and I think one or two others will join him in leaving before the end of the transfer window.”
Dobson spent the second half of the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Wimbledon.
He impressed in his 24 appearances and contributed one goal and one assist.
