Aston Villa manager Dean Smith

Darren Bent has revealed he is “expecting” Aston Villa star Jack Grealish to secure a move to an elite club like Manchester United this summer.

In an exclusive interview with Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former England striker believes leaving Villa Park will all but guarantee the 24-year-old a place in the Three Lions’ squad next season.

Grealish has been the standout performer for Dean Smith’s men this season, scoring nine goals and chipping in with eight assists across all competitions.

Bent believes the Villa faithful will be waving goodbye to their talisman when the summer transfer window opens, suggesting Old Trafford as a potential future home.

Asked what he had made of Grealish’s season, Bent told Football Insider: “I knew Jack had unbelievable ability anyway, I knew how good he was.

“What has helped him is that Villa on the whole have been very poor this year, even if he’d played a fraction of how good he’s been this season, we’d still be singing his praises.

“He’s played really, really well. He’s been their standout player, he’s been fantastic and, again, now it’s going to be interesting.

“With the Euros pushed back to next summer, he could get into the squad now but if he makes the move, which I expect him to, to one of the big boys – Manchester United, someone of that note – you’d have to say he’s got his seat on the plane if he can get enough game time.”

Grealish came through the youth ranks at Villa and has played a total of 177 times for the senior side.

He has seven appearances for England’s under-21s, as well as six for the Republic of Ireland youth side.
