Stuart Dallas is hugely deserving of a new big-money contract at Leeds United, according to Alex McLeish.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, heralded the 30-year-old as an “unsung hero” at Elland Road.
As revealed by Football Insider, Leeds are prepared to offer Dallas a double-your-money contract offer, with talks set to start at the end of the season.
The midfielder’s current terms at Elland Road, which run until 2023, see him earn around £20,000-a-week.
He has been a near ever-present for Marcelo Bielsa this season, with 33 appearances under his belt
The Northern Ireland international has proven his versatility, playing in a multitude of defensive and midfield roles.
McLeish admitted Dallas was a player who often went under the radar at Elland Road.
However, he insisted his importance to the team could not be overstated.
McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “He deserves it. Over the piece, watching the games, you don’t focus on him too much.
“And then all of a sudden he does what he did against Manchester City. Okay, let’s face it, he has been doing sterling work before that but certainly, that game makes people take more of a really strong look at him.
“You think: ‘Wait a minute, that guy is a bit of an unsung hero.’ High praise for him and he must be ecstatic at getting a new contract.”
Dallas has a total of 225 appearances and 26 goals under his belt for Leeds.
Seven of those strikes have come this season.
