Van Bronckhorst has dished out Rangers dressing down after Goldson reveal - pundit

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have called a meeting with the Rangers squad to discuss Connor Goldson’s comments following their League Cup semi-final defeat.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted Van Bronckhorst will want to “stamp his authority” on the Rangers squad straight away.

The new Ibrox boss watched his new side’s 3-1 defeat to Hibs at Hampden Park last Sunday from the stands.

As quoted by talkSPORT after the game, Goldson revealed he thought the squad had “lost a bit of hunger”.

Van Bronckhorst addressed the defender’s remarks today (November 24), via footballscotland, as he suggested he was being emotional in the heat of the moment and insisted it was time to move on.

“That’s when the new manager needs to come in and stamp his authority on the squad straight away,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He will have got them in a meeting and show what type of manager he is.

“I’m sure that can be resolved because all the hard work Steven Gerrard did with the players, the players will not want to throw that away.

“The manager has gone but they can still continue that with the new manager.”

Goldson has won one trophy – the 2020-21 Scottish Premiership title – in his three years at Ibrox.

They have reached one domestic cup final in that time – the 2019-20 SFA Cup.

The 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer and revealed last month he had heard nothing from the club or his agent about progression on a new deal.
