Van Bronckhorst signing plot handed ‘incredible’ boost after confirmed Rangers news – McLeish

The “incredible” sale of Nathan Patterson has raised a transfer war chest for Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, according to Alex McLeish.

The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Ibrox club have secured the futures of other stars by selling the 20-year-old ace.

Rangers confirmed Patterson’s club-record move to Everton on Tuesday.

Football Insider understands (4 January) the Premier League club will pay an initial £12million fee, which could rise to £16million with add-ons.

McLeish insisted Van Bronckhorst will have “people in mind” during the January transfer window.

“It’s an incredible fee, and it’s great money for Rangers,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“We’ve been saying for a while now that they needed to start doing some business and try and balance those books. They’ve done well with this Patterson deal in one fell swoop.

“When those sorts of figures start rolling in, you can almost rule out other players going.

“But it also frees up money for the transfer plans of Van Bronckhorst, I’m sure he’s got signings in mind. He’ll have a strategy and plan.

“There’s nothing better as a manager than having a few bob to spend because it allows you to bring in players of your choice, players that you know and trust.”

Rangers have already been active this month, completing the signing of United States international James Sands on an 18-month loan with an option to buy.
