Terry Venables has claimed that Leicester speedster Jamie Vardy would be the ideal strike partner for Tottenham goal king Harry Kane.
In a column in the Daily Mail, the former Spurs and England manager explained how the combination of Kane’s cleverness, understanding and goal threat would be the perfect complement to Vardy’s extreme pace.
Venables delivered his verdict on Kane after he scored his 100th Premier League goal in an extraordinary climax to Tottenham’s 2-2 Premier League draw at Liverpool on Sunday.
The England international dispatched a penalty kick in the fourth minute of added time after missing a spot-kick just minutes earlier.
Kane usually plays as a lone spearhead at Tottenham but Venables believes he is such a versatile performer he could operate just as effectively with a strike partner just ahead of him.
“When I watch him I think of Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham,” Venables told the Mail. “There is a bit of both in the way he plays. He can come short and play deeper or he can play as the centre forward.

“Harry could play well with Jamie Vardy up there for England. They can be absolutely lethal together. With Jamie’s pace, England could play Harry deeper.

“That way, you make the most of Jamie’s quick reactions and it might create space for the Tottenham striker.
“To get his 100th Premier League goal is a considerable achievement, well worth all the praise. It is confirmation of his status worldwide as a goalscorer of distinction who can operate under the most intense pressure, as he showed with his nerveless second penalty in front of The Kop.”
Kane recently broke the Premier League record for goals in a calendar year, scoring 39 in 2017 to surpass Alan Shearer’s record that had stood for 22 years.
He has followed up his 29-goal league tally of last season by netting 22 league strikes in 25 appearances this season and accumulating a remarkable 31 in 32 matches in all competitions.
