Noel Whelan has waxed lyrical over new Liverpool signing Diogo Jota after he completed a move to Anfield from Wolves over the weekend.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds United striker claimed that the 23-year-old is a “really clever” addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad who will provide competition for all of the forward positions.
The Reds confirmed the signing of the winger from Wolves on Saturday after the two clubs agreed on a £45million deal including add-ons.

His 131 appearances for the Wanderers yielded an impressive 44 goals and 19 assists
Jota‘s performances last season earned him his first call up to the Portuguese national team, making his debut in a 6-0 win over Lithuania on 14 November 2019.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest Reds recruit, Whelan said: “I think he is a really smart signing.
“He is bang on their type of player – quick, intelligent, good movement, can play along the line and can play central. A great addition and a really clever signing by Jurgen Klopp.
“He will provide competition for Salah, Mane and Firmino because he can play all of their roles.
“For £45million it is a good price for a great player. He will bring so much quality to that squad. I see him as a Liverpool type of player.”
Speaking shortly after he put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Anfield, Jota said: “All of my path since I was a kid and now, to join a club like Liverpool – the world champions – is just unbelievable. I just want to get started.
“When you look at the Premier League, you always see Liverpool as one of the biggest teams in the country, so it’s impossible to say no.”
