Brendan Rodgers detail major injury update on key Celtic player

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has provided a positive injury update on Hoops left-back Kieran Tierney, who has missed the last two league games with a calf injury.

Rodgers has revealed to the club’s official Twitter account that Tierney should be back in first-team training by the end of the week.

“He’ll rejoin training towards the end of the week, he’s out with the medical team and looking very strong. He should be back training Thursday,” the Hoops boss said about the 21-year-old.

Tierney, whose relentless energy is hugely important to the style of football played by the Bhoys, suffered the injury in the 3-2 win over Rangers at Ibrox, and as a result had to miss out on the chance of captaining Scotland in their two recent friendly matches.

Sunday’s match against Hamilton might be too soon for Tierney, but he should be back in the first-team for the upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers

Football Insider verdict

Celtic fans will be delighted with the news that Tierney, who is a talisman of the side, is on his way back to full fitness. The support will of course be particularly happy that seems like the Scotland international will be fit in time to play against Rangers in the vitally important Scottish Cup semi-final, a game which sees the Hoops’ dream of a second successive domestic treble on the line. Tierney’s runs up and down the wing will be pivotal to the way that the Bhoys will play on that massive Hampden pitch, and perhaps the Hoops boss may be tempted to put Tierney on the bench for the upcoming match against Hamilton first.
