Wolves and Aston Villa will both battle to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham in the summer window, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United forward is convinced the Midlands giants will be beating a path to the door of the Premier League big hitters.
Abraham, 21, has banged in 25 goals from 37 Villa appearances to cement their place in the end-of-season Championship play-offs after they fended off interest from Wolves in January to hang on to him for the entire campaign.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side held talks with Chelsea about landing Abraham on a permanent deal but the deal collapsed at the eleventh hour.
The forward will be one of the most in-demand forwards in the forthcoming window after a third impressive season on loan from the Londoners.
“Villa and Wolves will both bid for him, I’m pretty sure of that,” Whelan told Football Insider. “Wolves will come back in because they see Tammy Abraham as being ideal for their style of play.
“There will be plenty of clubs keen to sign him, including Villa, who know what he is about, but it depends for them on getting promotion. Obviously, it is down to what Chelsea want and what Tammy himself wants.
“He has proved himself in the Championship. He’s too good for that level. He’s easily good enough for the Premier League. Surely, Chelsea aren’t going to do what they did with [Romelu] Lukaku and let him go?
“If I was the Chelsea manager, I would say, ‘let’s give him a crack, he deserves the opportunity.”
Abraham has a contract with the London club that runs until the summer of 2022.
In other Midlands giants transfer news, it can be the REVEALED that the club are readying a £30million move for a Villa player after jetting in for a transfer mission.
