Aston Villa are hopeful of landing Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe by the weekend, according to a report.
The Daily Mail state that a loan deal is on the verge of going through which means once the details are finalised, the 20-year-old could be in the Villa ranks in time for the Villans trip to Sheffield United on Tuesday.
Tuanzebe, an England youth international, has played just three games under United manager Jose Mourinho this term and is keen on getting more first team action.
Red Devils boss had been reluctant to let the defender go particularly with Eric Bailly out through injury but was open to listening to loan offers.
Tuanzebe will offer Villa versatility at the back, as the enforcer can feature in both full-back spots, as well as in the centre of defence.
It had previously been reported in the Birmingham Mail that Bruce would be willing to let a number of his fringe players exit if he could get his hands on the United centre-back with Easah Suliman, Birkir Bjarnason and Aaron Tshiboa all heading for a potential exit – if the price was right.
Football Insider verdict:
This would be a coup for Bruce if he can use his United connections to pull off the youngster’s signing. Mourinho has already stated what a ‘talented’ player he is but having only played three games this season, the England U21 international needs minutes and matches and the Portuguese boss cannot promise him that. Tuanzebe’s arrival will be integral for the Villans push for the Premier League, as they look to tighten up defensively. With 25 goals conceded in the Championship this term, the youngster could add yet more stability at the back enabling the attack to go forward secure in the notion that they have a strong back line.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, PL attacker could also be on his way into Villa Park.
