Aston Villa took a massive step towards the Premier League on Sunday with a 2-0 win over their city rival Birmingham City in the Championship.

Goals from Albert Adomah and Conor Hourihane were enough to take all three points on an afternoon where the Claret and Blues dominated at Villa Park.

The win pushed Steve Bruce back up to second spot in the league, above Derby County who could only manage a draw against Norwich City on Saturday.

After the game, club chairman and billionaire owner Dr Tony Xia took to his official Twitter account to congratulate the team and urged them to do the same in the 15 remaining fixtures of the season.

It has been an amazing run of form of late for the Birmingham club, who have now taken seven wins from the last seven games in the division.

But they have a tough match to play next time out against a Fulham side that have five wins in their last six league games.

Jack Grealish was mesmerising in midfield for Villa once again and supporters responded to the Dr’s Tweet by urging their owner to get the 22-year-old as well as Robert Snodgrass tied down at the club.

The Birmingham native is finally living up to expectations in the centre of the park this season and Snodgrass has been a revelation since his loan move from West Ham in the summer, scoring six in 26 games.

Here is how the Villa fans reacted to their owner on social media:
