Gabby Agbonlahor has ripped into Trezeguet for his lacklustre display for Aston Villa against Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England captain slammed the Egyptian’s decision making in the final third and his creativity.
Trezeguet was handed his 11th start of the season at Villa Park as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Spurs.
The 26-year-old failed to register a shot on target, put in an accurate cross or complete a successful dribble (Wyscout) before being replaced after 79 minutes.
Anwar El Ghazi came on in his place and Agbonlahor was baffled as to why the Dutchman did not start the game.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Whenever I criticise Trezeguet Villa fans have a go at me because he scored the goal to get Villa into the Carabao Cup final (against Leicester City).
“But I’m looking at consistency and you just don’t see it from Trezeguet since he arrived at the club.
“He gets the ball and it’s like he’s more interested in chasing it rather than make something happen. He’s very good at his defensive work but going forward he doesn’t get past anyone, he doesn’t take anyone on. He makes the wrong decisions in attacking areas.
“It’s just frustrating to watch really. He didn’t look like he was ever going to create anything. I’m not sure why El Ghazi didn’t start because for me El Ghazi is the better player.”
Trezeguet has not found the net all season and has provided just one assist in the Premier League.
In the last campaign he scored six times and contributed two assists in 34 league games after his £8.75m arrival.
