Aston Villa will push strongly to sign Barnsley right-back James Bree in the final 10 days of the transfer window, according to a reliable journalist.
The Sun correspondent Alan Nixon took to Twitter on Wednesday evening to give an update on the Midlands club’s pursuit of the emerging defensive star.
Nixon, who has a transfer column in the Sun and is renowned as a window expert, reported that Villa are “still very keen” on landing the Oakwell sensation.
But he explained that Premier League clubs are also weighing up moves for Bree, 19, in what is likely to be well contested race for his signature before the 31 January cut-off.
Nixon reported that Barnsley “want good guaranteed money” for Bree even though he is out of contract at the end of the season.

The teenager is regarded as one of the outstanding young players in the Championship and has been a mainstay of the Paul Heckingbottom’s side that have punched above their weight in this campaign.
Bree does not turn 20 until October but has already accumulated 60 first team appearances for Barnsley, including 21 in all competitions this season.
Villa have made it clear they are in the market for major reinforcements this month and are reportedly on the verge of making their second signing in playmaker Henri Lansbury.
It has been reported that the playmaker will undergo a medical with the Midlands club on Thursday night ahead of completing a £3million transfer from Nottingham Forest.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, Villa chiefs are absolutely convinced a sensational January attacker transfer can be sealed.
