Vincent Kompany: Bayern Munich deal close after overnight talks – sources

Burnley owner Alan Pace met with Bayern Munich representatives on Wednesday night to discuss a compensation package for Vincent Kompany, sources have told Football Insider.

There is confidence on all sides an agreement will be reached for the Belgian to join the Bundesliga giants after they have endured a challenging campaign.

Sources say talks are now at an advanced stage as the 38-year-old has emerged as the prime candidate to replace Thomas Tuchel after he left the German club at the end of the season.

Kompany is now in pole position to become the new Bayern manager, with negotiations ongoing to release him from his contract, which is set to run until 2028.

Vincent Kompany in line to leave Burnley for Bayern Munich

Kompany’s stock has remained high over the past year despite Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.

He joined the Clarets from Belgian side Anderlecht two years ago and masterminded the club’s promotion back to the Premier League in the 2022-23 campaign.

But his side were unable to kick on and ended the most reason season with just 24 points – eight points behind fourth-bottom Nottingham Forest.

That hasn’t stopped clubs from identifying Kompany as a potential option to become their new manager, with Bayern opening up talks about the possibility of him joining them.

The deal is now progressing and an agreement is likely to be reached provided there are no unexpected late twists.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month Bayern had opened up talks with Tuchel about the possibility of him staying at the club next season, but an agreement couldn’t be reached.

The Bundesliga side finished third in the table and recorded a trophyless campaign for the first time since 2012.
