Watford are planning to table an offer to try and lure defender Alberto Moreno away from Liverpool this summer, according to a report.
The Express claims that the Hornets are ready to stump up £15million for the 25-year-old left-back, who is said to have fell down the pecking order at Anfield following the arrival of Andrew Robertson from Hull last month.
It is understood that the Reds have emphatically turned down a bid from Napoli for Moreno, as they looked to receive more than the £11million that was tabled by the Italian side with Jurgen Klopp determined not to let him leave on the cheap.
Liverpool and their Premier League rivals Watford begin their season against each other next weekend, but the Express reports that a deal may not be achieved in time for that game.
Moreno has been widely criticised for his form in a Liverpool shirt over the last couple of seasons.
Last term saw James Milner play at left-back as the Spaniard was cast to the fringes of Klopp’s plans.
The former Sevilla full-back played just 18 appearances across all competitions last season, with just two of those being starts in the Premier League.
Football Insider Verdict
Moreno doesn’t seem to have and sort of future at Anfield so Klopp should certainly look to sell him on before the transfer window slams shut. £15million would be a more than decent fee to collect for a left-back who has been really out of sorts in recent years. Robertson has been an excellent acquisition by Liverpool and Milner showed last season that he is more than capable of filling in on the left side of the back four when needed. The Reds’ defence is still a problem that needs addressing. Nathaniel Clyne has shown glimpses that he may be falling into the same slump that Moreno has endured while Joel Matip seems to be the only consistent centre-back option. The sooner a deal for Virgil van Dijk is done, the sooner Liverpool fans can start looking forward to the upcoming season.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds are set to make an offer for this versatile midfielder within the next few days.
