Declan John details meeting that was held after Rangers loss v Celtic
Rangers defender Declan John has revealed that the Gers held a meeting in the aftermath of last weekend’s 4-0 Scottish Cup thrashing by Celtic at Hampden – and insists it can only make Graeme Murty’s side “better.”
The Light Blues held a debrief on Tuesday after they were knocked out in the Hampden semi-final as they picked over the bones of the humiliating defeat and John thinks it will benefit Murty’s side in the long run.
The Welshman admitted that after doing so well against Brendan Rodgers’ side in the previous two meetings this season under Murty that their performance at the national stadium was particularly disappointing.
“We came in on Tuesday and had a meeting about it and had a chat about things we didn’t do in the game and things that we can improve on,” John said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“I think that was good to do and it can only make us better, especially after a game like that when we haven’t tested Celtic at all.
“We did in the last two games against them so that was disappointing.”

John is almost certain to start when the Gers face Hearts at Ibrox on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership after Lee Wallace was suspended by the club.
The Welshman has impressed since coming into the side to replace Wallace in September after a groin injury forced the captain to undergo surgery.
With Wallace’s Ibrox career now looking over, John has a huge opportunity to make the left-back spot his own at Ibrox.

Waiting until Tuesday to debrief the game is what was always planned by the Gers boss and makes more sense than looking at it straight after the game when passions are still high and emotions can take over. Waiting a day or two for everyone to cool down and then go back over it makes far more sense and allows a more critical analysis of the good and bad in the performance. Hopefully the players – and staff – take everything on board and show a noticeable improvement against Hearts on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership.
