‘Welcome to Newcastle’ – Jacob Murphy responds to new arrival after deal is agreed
Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy reacted after the club confirmed another addition ahead of the new season.
Murphy enjoyed an outstanding 2024/25 campaign, firmly establishing himself as Eddie Howe’s first-choice on the right wing.
He ended the Premier League season with 20 goal contributions, playing a key role in Newcastle’s fifth-place finish and Champions League qualification.
As the club prepares for its return to Europe’s top competition, they have begun strengthening their squad, with Newcastle completing the signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.
The deal is worth £55 million and adds fresh competition to the right flank, despite Murphy’s strong form last term.
Alongside player additions, Newcastle have also made changes behind the scenes. The club recently confirmed a new appointment to their backroom staff, aiming to ensure continued improvement on and off the pitch next season.

Newcastle confirm Sudarshan Gopaladesikan appointment
Following Paul Mitchell’s departure as Newcastle’s sporting director in June, the club have been actively searching for new additions to bolster their backroom team.
They have now confirmed the appointment of Sudarshan Gopaladesikan as the club’s new technical director. The news drew a response from Murphy, who liked the official announcement.
Gopaladesikan joins Newcastle after leaving Serie A side Atalanta, where he held the role of Director of Football Intelligence. At St James’ Park, he will take charge of football data operations across all departments, including the men’s, women’s, and academy teams.
He will work closely with the club’s next sporting director, a position they are still looking to fill. Former Real Madrid executive David Hopkinson has been linked with Newcastle’s sporting director role, as the club continues its restructure off the pitch.
Newcastle move closer to Yoane Wissa deal after striker search

While changes continue behind the scenes, the club’s hierarchy remain focused on strengthening Eddie Howe’s squad ahead of the new season.
Reports suggest Newcastle are increasingly confident of securing a deal for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, who has now left the Bees’ training camp amid growing speculation about his future.
The Magpies have endured a frustrating summer in their pursuit of a new striker. Hugo Ekitike opted to join Liverpool, while both Joao Pedro and Liam Delap chose Chelsea over a move to Tyneside.
However, Wissa could now bring an end to that search, with Newcastle’s interest gathering pace in recent days.
