‘Well done to Mr Marinakis’ – Keith Wyness wowed by ‘amazing’ Nottingham Forest plan
Evangelos Marinakis has been praised for the work he has put in to push through Nottingham Forest’s stadium plans.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who has called it a “fabulous project.”
Nottingham Forest want to increase the City Ground to be a 52,000 capacity seater stadium, with its current capacity just over 30,000.
£15million in extra revenue could be generated for Nottingham Forest through the plans, with Marinakis keen to push the club as far as it can go.
Nottingham Forest show ‘statement of intent’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Marinakis deserves great credit for what he has achieved.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks it would have been a big loss for the club to have to move out of the City Ground.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s a great plan, a great vision. Kudos to Marinakis for actually having done that work through with the architects, and the City Council have finally seen sense and they backed it, which they should have realised a long time ago.
“I don’t know why they played a game at the start of this whole process, but it’s the right thing to do for Nottingham as a city, and it’s a great location on the banks of the Trent, although that was part of the limitations of the scale of the project.
“Still, it’s an amazing location, just walking distance from the city. It’s one of the truly iconic football positions and stadiums, as we know, from the European nights back in the 70s and 80s.
“It’s great. So look, good luck to them, I think it’s a fabulous project and yes, it’s a statement of intent and well done Mr. Marinakis on this one.”

Nottingham Forest continue to improve
Any fears that Nottingham Forest may be playing in the Championship next season have been eased since the arrival of Sean Dyche.
Nottingham Forest’s 3-0 win over Tottenham was another sign of the progress the Tricky Trees have made since the departure of Ange Postecoglou.
A five-point cushion has opened up between Nottingham Forest and the bottom three, with West Ham currently occupying 18th place.
