Welsh could push to quit Celtic imminently after confirmed news - Scottish pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Stephen Welsh could push for a move out of Celtic after reported bids from Udinese.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 21-year-old may be tempted to leave by the lure of a move abroad.
As quoted by the Glasgow Times on Thursday (13 January), Ange Postecoglou revealed Welsh is “not going anywhere” this month amid the “attention” he has been getting.
As reported by the Daily Record (10 January), Celtic knocked back two approaches from Udinese for the young centre-back.
The Italians reportedly tabled a loan-to-buy bid and a £1.6million transfer offer.
Despite Postecoglou’s steadfast stance on a possible exit, Hutton suggested Welsh may want to be allowed to discuss a move.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Welsh has impressed since his breakthrough. He came in at a difficult time with a change of manager, injuries and he’s been a shining light.
“He’s performed to a high level for one so young at 21. That pressure’s on you to perform week in, week out when things aren’t going so well. That is a testament to him and his mentality.
“He deserves the praise that’s coming his way. I think for the player, he’ll be thinking about it, a chance to move. He will have seen the likes of Aaron Hickey going there, Jack Hendry going abroad.
“They’re doing really well, getting moves and progressing in their career.”
Welsh has played 19 times across all competitions for Celtic this season.
The academy graduate has made a total of 41 first-team appearances.
