Wenham: Devine is 'phenomenal' and Tottenham fans have got him totally wrong
John Wenham has been blown away by Alfie Devine’s form for the Tottenham Under 23s as he was nominated for a major award.
Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels, claims the youngster is good enough to be playing in the Europa Conference League.
Devine, 17, was nominated for the Premier League 2 player of the month award for September.
The midfielder picked up four goals and two assists in four games in the last month but lost out to Aston Villa’s Caleb Chukwuemeka.
Wenham has dismissed claims that Devine’s progress has stagnated and claimed the youngster is dominating in under 23s games.
“He scored against Marine in the FA Cup last season and became our youngest ever goalscorer,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Because of that, people have wrongly assumed his progress has stagnated because he hasn’t been back in the first team.
“That’s wrong, he’s only 17. He’s playing regularly with the under 23s and is playing as a false nine or sometimes as an out and out striker.
“He is dominating in those games despite being a second-year scholar. He’s phenomenal.
“It’s unfortunate he can’t be involved in the Conference League.
“There is a UEFA rule that says you have to have been at a club for two years to play in Europe.
“From next year, that won’t be an issue.
If he was going to be registered this year we would have had to sacrifice a senior player and that just wasn’t an option, unfortunately.”
