‘We’re now going to block Nottingham Forest deals’ – Tottenham are ‘furious’ after ‘bruising’ twist

Tottenham are now blocking Nottingham Forest’s moves in the transfer market after the Morgan Gibbs-White saga.

Spurs thought they had triggered the release clause in Gibbs-White’s contract, after making a £60million bid for the midfielder.

However, Forest threatened legal action, claiming the North London side had obtained information about the clause illegally.

The 25-year-old has now penned a new three-year deal at the City Ground, putting to bed any chance of a move away this summer.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Tottenham could now be seeking revenge on Forest in the transfer market.

Tottenham block Forest’s move for Ramsey

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Tottenham are targeting Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey to block Nottingham Forest’s move for the midfielder.

Earlier this month (20 July), Football Insider revealed Forest were leading the race for Ramsey, despite interest from a number of other clubs.

Wyness added that battles like these are a result of bruised egos and are never positive for either side.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’m already seeing Spurs now targeting other players that Forest have got their eyes on, like Jacob Ramsey at Villa.

“They’re furious, they’re going to say, you’re going to block us on Morgan-Gibson White, we’re going to block you on some of your other deals. So all these little tit-for-tat battles in football emerge. It’s just the way that people’s egos get bruised.

“Often it’s best not to have these battles. Without being taken advantage of, you can still make your point and move on in a positive way. But it’s an interesting one to say the least.

“Mr. Marinakis is testing the boundaries again. He’s standing up for himself, I get all that, but would it have been wise to have moved on and then gotten your own back another way? That’s probably the way I’d have looked at it.”

Tottenham move for Bournemouth defender

Meanwhile, Tottenham are advancing a move for Bournemouth defender Illia Zabarnyi, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources say that a bid in excess of £60million will be very hard for the Cherries to turn down, and could see the Ukrainian complete a move to North London.

Zabarnyi was heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the summer, but Spurs have now emerged as the frontrunners to land his signature.

Bournemouth are desperate to keep hold of the centre-back, as they don’t want to lose yet another key player after the departures of Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid and Milos Kerkez to Liverpool.
