Kenny: West Brom have just made big Wilder mistake as three-year contract agreed

West Brom have made a big mistake in not making Chris Wilder their new boss.

That is according to ex-Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively after Football Insider today revealed the latest twist in West Brom’s manager hunt.

The Baggies have agreed to make David Wagner their new manager after, as revealed by Football Insider earlier today, he agreed a three-year deal.

That comes after Albion ended talks with Wilder last week despite widespread reports that a deal to appoint him was almost done.

Wilder has been out of work since leaving the Blades in March after nearly five seasons at the helm.

During that time, he won two promotions and Kenny can’t help but think that West Brom have missed a trick in not hiring a man with his track record.

“I think they might have made a mistake with this,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“Wilder, with his experience, I thought he’d be the sort of manager they would 100 per cent be after.

“He’s got promotions under his belt. West Brom have been known as a yo-yo club over many years, and I’m sure they’ll want to yo-yo back up again.

“So I thought this one was nailed on. It’s definitely an unusual one.”

This site revealed yesterday that West Brom were recently knocked back by Roy Hodgson over the vacant manager’s post.

Lincoln City’s Michael Appleton was also among the frontrunners to take over as recently as the 5th of June.
