West Brom on the brink of 'amazing' Ismael appointment after what I've seen - Campbell
Kevin Campbell is thrilled to hear West Brom are closing in on the announcement of Valerien Ismael as their new manager.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Baggie and Arsenal striker revealed he has been impressed by the 45-year-old’s Barnsley side when he has seen them play in person.
This site revealed on 20 June Albion were close to appointing Barnsley’s manager as their new boss after reaching an agreement in principle.
It comes after a move to appoint ex-Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder was vetoed by the Chinese owner Guochuan Lai.
The decision would also ultimately lead to the departure of sporting director Luke Dowling, who left the club last week.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Ismael, Campbell said: “I really like him.

“He is really positive in everything that he does. His teams go for it and that is always a good thing.
“That Barnsley side only just survived a couple of seasons ago and last season they are in the play-offs. It was a remarkable turnaround.
“I have been in and around there with my son so I have watched them a fair few times in person and I like what I saw from him and his team.
“I think he will do an amazing job at West Brom. In my opinion it would be a very smart appointment.”
