Football Insider verdict:
Manuel Pellegrini is wasting no time changing the team into one that he’s confident can play good, attacking football. He’s not ignoring the defence, though, and Diop is an exciting player. The 21-year-old has been capped five times for the France Under-21s and was a mainstay in Ligue 1 last season, making 41 appearances for the club, scoring three goals. The enforcer stands at 6ft 4in according to Transfermarkt.com and is a towering physical presence in the box. The only thing that stands against him is that he is relatively unknown and untested at a higher level. He’s come up through the youth ranks at Toulouse and hasn’t played a senior game for his country, or played at European level for his club. However, Pellegrini has come in and prioritised young players who can play his style of football and fans are going to have to trust him this summer. He hasn’t put a foot wrong so far.
