West Ham backed to complete Ben Chilwell signing soon
West Ham United have been backed to complete the signing of Chelsea full-back Ben Chilwell in the upcoming January transfer window.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson claimed that the 27-year-old would be a “great signing” for Julen Lopetegui’s side.
The England international has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge under Enzo Maresca and has yet to make a single appearance in the Premier League this season.
The left-back has only played 45 minutes all season which came in the 5-0 win against Barrow in the EFL Cup third round.
Marc Cucerella and Renato Veiga are ahead of him, and even though he returned to first-team training, it is expected that Chilwell will find it hard to get any football at his current club.
West Ham could provide Ben Chilwell more regular football
“Location-wise, it works for him,” Robinson told Football Insider.
“On a short-term basis, big deals, we do see some done in January.
“I’m not going to say you’re not going to see big deals done in January, but actually, you know, a deal like that is potentially a short-term solution for Ben Chilwell.
“I wouldn’t say he’s the answer to West Ham’s problems.

“Going forward with his delivery as well into the box they obviously lost James Ward-Prowse this season with his delivery, and Ben Chilwell brings that into the side.
“If West Ham are at the table for him it’d be a great signing for them.”
