West Ham are interested in signing Federico Martinez but face competition from both Liverpool and Everton according to a report.
The Sun reports that the Hammers are interested in the 21-year-old who has been compared to Angel Di Maria, but face tough competition.
Swansea City, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and Roma have all been keeping tabs on the winger as well.
The same report believes Martinez would be able to leave his club, Montevideo’s Liverpool FC, for £5million in January.
The winger has a Spanish passport which means he wouldn’t require a work permit if he made the move to Europe.
Football Insider Verdict
The young winger has certainly gained a long list of admirers, and it would be an achievement if West Ham could sign him ahead of their rivals. With the potential fee being only £5million, if Martinez was able to fulfill his potential and achieve the same success as Di Maria, not only would the club benefit on the field but they’d enjoy a potentially huge future profit margin. While West Ham should prioritise signing a striker and defenders in the next transfer window, the Martinez deal would hardly break the bank. The Hammers could pay £5million for Martinez and have plenty of funds still available to strengthen at both ends.
