‘West Ham close sources’ reveal Julen Lopetegui could be sacked within days

West Ham chiefs are “unhappy” with Julen Lopetegui and there’s even a possibility he could be sacked during the international break.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed he’s been told by “close sources at West Ham” that the Spaniard’s job is under immediate threat.

The most is likely scenario is that Lopetegui will be given until Christmas to turn things around at the London Stadium but the sensational possibility of the sack just three months into his reign is possible.

West Ham sit 14th in the Premier League after winning just three of their first 11 top-flight games this term.

Lopetegui replaced David Moyes in the off-season and was immediately backed with a big-money flurry of signings.

He is under contract in east London until June 2026, with an option for a 12-month extension.

‘A lot of unhappiness’ behind the scenes at West Ham, says Wyness

Wyness insisted there is a “lot of unhappiness” behind the scenes at the club.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’ve spoken to some close sources at West Ham.

“He’s being backed publicly but behind the scenes, there is a lot of unhappiness.

“If he survives the international break then he’ll get through to Christmas and he’ll be reviewed again then.

“But he’s right on the edge at the moment. It’s not surprising. The style of play is lacklustre, as far as West Ham fans see it.

“It’s a case of be careful what you wish for, because Moyes has gone and they’re now in the same place – if not worse.

“I think he’ll be given until Christmas, that’s the right way to handle it.

“But he’s certainly right in the crosshairs at West Ham at the moment.”
