West Ham United are set to show Jordan Hugill the exit door this summer after a short stint with the club and fans are utterly bewildered by the news.
A report in The Sun reveals that the former Preston North End forward, 25, who only arrived at the London Stadium in January is set for a quickfire exit after failing to impress and score for the Hammers.
But after being given a grand total of just 22 minutes of action in which to show his worth, supporters are confused as to why and how the transfer even materialised in the first place.
Hugill scored eight goals and two assists for North End in the Championship which seemed to be enough to warrant the striker a move to East London in the winter window.
With an injury to Andy Carroll, it looked as though the 25-year-old was being brought in as a direct replacement for the seemingly eternally crocked targetman – but it would appear that wasn’t the case after all.
The same report in The Sun states that the Hammers instead are keen on bringing in Nice forward Alassane Plea from Ligue 1 who has impressed this season, but the club will have to shell out £25million for the forward.
Here is what West Ham fans had to say about the reported transfer of Hugill:
No forward on earth couldve impressed given the chance hes had

Poor lad, wish him all the best if he does leave.

This was the most bizarre transfer of the January window, £8m for a striker with a poor goal scoring record in the championship, how was he meant to improve us, was this taking us to the next level?

Wow I didn't see this coming….said no one ever. It's not his fault, but I literally have no idea why we wasted money on this guy when there were better options. Knee jerk signing

Have to feel sorry for the lad. What a waste
