West Ham are exploring alternative striker targets to Inter Milan star Gabriel Barbosa this month, Football Insider has learned.
The club have held extensive talks over a January deal for the prolific 23-year-old, who completed a goal-laden loan spell at Brazilian outfit Flamengo at the end of December.
A West Ham source has told Football Insider that a deal is some way off for Barbosa and the club are now ready to abandon their pursuit.
The Hammers have submitted a loan-to-buy offer for Barbosa in which he would join for the remainder of the campaign with a view to a permanent move.
But there is a growing sense from those close to talks that the Brazil international is eyeing a move to a different club.
He has interest from multiple teams across Europe after his prolific form in 2019.
Barbosa plundered 34 goals from 43 matches during his Flamengo season-long loan that ended last month after the Club World Cup.
West Ham are now looking at alternative strikers who may be more realistic for them to attract over the next three weeks.
There are many question marks over a deal for Barbosa and that means it may prove too complicated to complete in this window.
New manager David Moyes is eager to secure an alternative centre-forward option to club-record signing Sebastien Haller, with the versatile Michail Antonio regarded as the only realistic alternative from the current squad.
