West Ham news: David Moyes ally drops unexpected Jarrod Bowen reveal

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has hit out at David Moyes’ “extremely harsh” treatment at West Ham.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and worked with Moyes during his time at the Merseyside club – claimed the Scot would have been furious with reports of negotiations with other managers while he was still in the post.

West Ham confirmed on Monday (6 May) that the 61-year-old will leave the club by mutual consent at the end of this season.

The Irons held talks with other managers in the run-up to that decision, with Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim among those linked with the role.

Football Insider has revealed (5 May) that West Ham are submitting a “highly lucrative” offer to Julen Lopetegui after holding initial talks with the ex-Wolves boss.

West Ham slammed for ‘extremely harsh’ Moyes treatment

Sources have also told Football Insider (1 May) that Irons chiefs changed their mind on handing current manager Moyes a contract extension earlier this year due to pressure from fan groups.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I feel this is very harsh.

“When it became public that West Ham were speaking to potential candidates, I knew David would not be happy with that – to put it mildly.

“It isn’t fair. Obviously, something has happened behind the scenes.

“It’s extremely harsh. They’ve been trending upwards since he came back, and he’s won them a trophy.

“It’s the Moyes style of play which has been criticised by the fans. I do believe he’s been very harshly treated.

“Something has happened in the background for this to happen.

“He’s brought in players like Jarrod Bowen for next to nothing. There was a lot of disquiet at the time about that deal, but he’s becoming a West Ham legend. That was purely a Moyes signing.

“I think they could’ve gone on for another season.

“I’m sure he’ll pop up somewhere else because he deserves another top job. I wish him all the best.”
