West Ham news: Pundit slams GSB 'false dawns' after Armando Broja transfer report

Paul Robinson has poured cold water on the idea of West Ham signing Chelsea striker Armando Broja in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said “I’ll believe it when I see it” and pointed the finger at West Ham’s ownership for not backing David Moyes.

The Hammers have been in desperate need of a striker for 18 months following the departure of Sebastien Haller to Ajax.

Michail Antonio is the only recognised senior number nine at the club, although Jarrod Bowen and Andriy Yarmolenko can fill in there.

Football Insider revealed (24 January) that David Moyes’ side were interested in Armando Broja after an impressive season on loan at Southampton.

According to the Daily Mail (8 May), the Albanian striker is now high up on West Ham’s list of targets heading into the summer.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the Irons potentially signing Broja, Robinson said: “I’ll believe it when I see it with West Ham.

“They have needed players in for a while. There has been lots of speculation but not players coming through the door. It is a difficult one.

“Yes, Broja would definitely improve them. He would fit into the way David Moyes plays.

“But there have been so many false dawns when it comes to players West Ham might sign. It’s been happening over multiple transfer windows now.

“The club is financially sound and safe in the Premier League. The stadium and the supporters are amazing. The club just need to back David Moyes. They need to allow him to get the players he needs in the transfer market.”
