West Ham target Michy Batshuayi will be staying at Chelsea in January, according to a report.
The Daily Star claim that 23-year-old has been told that he will be staying at Stamford Bridge for the rest of the season and fighting for a starting position.
It is understood that the Hammers and Swansea had both been interested in loan deals for Batshuayi, but th striker will continue to battle Diego Costa in the Chelsea squad.
Batshuayi completed a £33million move to the Blues in the summer and has struggled to make a big impression.
The Belgium international has scored four goals in 16 appearances for the Londoners and has been unable to force his way into Antonio Conte’s regular starting XI.
He was handed a rare start in the club’s FA Cup tie on Sunday and he played a starring role in the 4-1 victory, scoring one and assisting another.
Chelsea’s emphatic decision is a major blow to West Ham, who will now turn their attention to other forward targets as they look to address their problems in front of goal.
The Hammers have scored just 23 goals in 20 Premier League games and are missing a prolific goalscorer in their squad.
Football Insider verdict:
West Ham’s pursuit of Batshuayi was always an unlikely one as Chelsea would be mad to let a £33million signing leave the club on loan. The Belgian is now set to continue fighting for his position and he can learn from one of the best Premier League strikers right now in Diego Costa. However, the Hammers do still need to address their attacking crisis as they are very short of options. Batshuayi is yet to prove himself during his brief spell in English football and West Ham may be best served targeting someone who is a recognised Premier League scorer.
In other West Ham transfer news, the club have submitted a bid for a Premier League defender.
