West Ham backed to complete Johnstone signing after Moyes update - Kenny
West Ham boss David Moyes has made the right call in choosing to pursue Sam Johnstone ahead of Alphonse Areola.
So say ex-Premier League shot-stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hammers’ goalkeeper hunt.
This site revealed on 22nd July that West Ham have offered West Brom £11million for Johnstone, whose contract expires next summer,
It is understood that the club has also held talks over signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
But Johnstone, 28, is Moyes’ number one pick because of his communication skills and Premier League pedigree.
Kenny claims West Ham have made the right choice by making the England international their top target.

“I think because he’s English it helps,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“I really rate him. He’s a brilliant player. So I think he’s a good target if they are looking for a new goalkeeper.
“Areola had a good season at Fulham last year even though they got relegated.
“But I really do like Johnstone and he’s involved in that England international setup now.
“Obviously, Johnstone has just been relegated with West Brom too. I’m sure he’ll want to get back in the Premier League to help his England chances.“
French shot-stopper Areola, who is under contract at PSG until 2023, spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan with Fulham.
He won the Cottagers’ Player of the Season award despite their relegation from the top-flight.
