Medical insider names Nayef Aguerd’s West Ham debut date after ‘nowhere near’ reveal

Nayef Aguerd could be in line to make his debut for West Ham some time in late October.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Aguerd, 26, signed for the Hammers from Rennes in a £30million deal in June.

But the Moroccan centre-back is yet to turn out competitively for his new club because of an ankle injury he sustained in a pre-season game against Rangers.

That issue required surgery, and Aguerd has only recently resumed individual running drills at Rush Green.

But as quoted by football.london last Friday (30 September), Irons boss David Moyes admitted that the defender is “nowhere near the level of training”.

Dinnery assessed Aguerd’s progress and predicted when exactly Hammers fans might see him in competitive action for the first time.

“It’s difficult to throw someone right into that Premier League environment, particularly when he hasn’t really had the opportunity to adapt,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Of course, if West Ham can continue and use the result against Wolves as a springboard to go forward, that eases the pressure on David Moyes to bring anyone back too early.

“Realistically, we could be looking at a return to the squad this month. For a start, we’re probably looking at the game at home to Silkeborg.

“He will be involved in his own mini pre-season. When he reintegrates, he needs to make sure he doesn’t have any reaction, which is always a risk with this type of injury.”
