West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku is a summer transfer target for Italian giants Roma, according to a report.
Italian football news outlet CalcioMercato claim that the Italian side are in the market for a full-back and have earmarked West Ham’s 23-year-old left-back as a potential target.
They also claim that Manchester City’s Gael Clichy, who is set to be out of contract at the end of the season, is of interest.
Signed in the summer of 2016 from Olympiakos, Masuaku has struggled at West Ham as a result of injuries, which have limited him to just 13 appearances in the Premier League this season.
Contracted at the club until 2020, the defender has been fighting with Aaron Cresswell for the starting XI berth on the left side of the Hammers’ defence.
Football Insider verdict:
Despite his lack of appearances this campaign, losing Masuaku would be a big blow to Slaven Bilic and his side. At just 23-years-old, he has performed excellently in his debut season in the Premier League, something which many players have failed to do. He looks like he holds all the attributes to be a success in the top flight, which is why Roma will be sniffing around. West Ham are lucky in that they have Aaron Cresswell in the side too, so if Masuaku were to depart the London Stadium, they would not be panicking about finding a replacement. Still, Bilic will have high hopes for the young French defender and will not let him go without a fight.
