West Ham told to sign Pablo Fornals replacement after £10m+ deal agreed – pundit

West Ham should target an upgrade on Pablo Fornals after completing a deal for Flynn Downes, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed that West Ham can do better than Fornals, Manuel Lanzini and Said Benrahma as their option on the left wing.

The Hammers confirmed last week (7 July) that Downes had signed the lifelong West Ham fan from Swansea City on a five-year contract.

Football Insider reported earlier this month (7 July) that the two clubs had agreed a £12million fee for the former England youth international.

Asked whether it is vital the club have fans in the team, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It’s important.

“Apart from that, you need quality. They’ve got Soucek and Declan Rice but they need options.

“They are in Europe again, they might not be as lucky as last season and get more injuries. David Moyes will know it’s going to be even harder to get in the top-seven again next season.

“I would say they need another striker as well.

“I’d get a left-winger because, for me, Fornals, Lanzini and Benrahma are OK players but I think West Ham can do better.

“Another striker to help Antonio is a must.”

Fornal, a six-time Spain international, has scored 16 times and 15 assists in 128 games across all competitions for the Irons.

The 26-year-old still has two years left to run on his contract at the London Stadium.

In other news, West Ham are racing to sign a player who left Everton in 2020.
