‘What a brilliant signing’ – Newcastle fans stunned by Yoane Wissa transfer news

Newcastle fans have reacted in unison in support of a potential move for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, following a recent update that sparked excitement online.

The Magpies have endured a frustrating transfer window so far, with several top targets opting to join other clubs.

Following the expiry of Callum Wilson’s contract, Newcastle have been actively searching for a new number nine — but without success to this point.

Both Joao Pedro and Liam Delap chose Chelsea over a move to Tyneside, while Hugo Ekitike is now closing in on a switch to Liverpool, despite Newcastle having already submitted an offer for the forward.

However, attention has now turned to Wissa and an update has sparked a wave of enthusiasm among supporters, who have taken to social media to urge the club to get a deal done for the Brentford striker.

Newcastle confident of completing Yoane Wissa deal

Craig Hope of the Daily Mail revealed on X that there is “confidence” within the Newcastle camp over their pursuit of Wissa, with optimism growing that a deal can be agreed.

He added that an offer in the region of £30 million could be enough to tempt Brentford into negotiations.

There were initial concerns following Bryan Mbeumo’s move to Manchester United that Brentford may be unwilling to part with another key forward.

The 28-year-old would be a welcome addition to Howe’s side, and enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, scoring 20 goals across all competitions for Brentford.

While Football Insider previously reported that Brentford are reluctant to sell Wissa, it is understood the striker has now left the club’s pre-season training camp amid the growing speculation.

Brentford have already seen significant departures this summer, including top scorer Mbeumo, captain Christian Norgaard, and long-serving head coach Thomas Frank, who has joined Tottenham.

New manager Keith Andrews now faces the prospect of losing three key first-team players, including his two primary attacking threats from last term.

Newcastle fans call for Wissa signing as striker search nears conclusion

After missing out on several high-profile targets, Newcastle’s pursuit of Wissa appears to be gathering pace and could finally deliver the striker they’ve been searching for.

However, the Magpies may have to act swiftly to avoid another hijack. Football Insider revealed Tottenham are also interested in Wissa, with Spurs keen to reunite him with former boss Thomas Frank.

Despite that, tensions seem to have eased on Tyneside following Hope’s latest update, which has sparked hope that Newcastle’s long-running striker search could be nearing its end.

Fans have responded positively to the prospect of signing Wissa. One supporter posted: “Brilliant signing for that price” while another added: “Bargain, pay that immediately.”
