Kevin Campbell is baffled by the ongoings at Arsenal after it was revealed Rob Holding would be handed a new and improved contract at the club.
The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said that he has “no idea” what is going on at the Emirates but insisted “nobody is safe” ahead of the January transfer window.
Football Insider revealed on Monday that club representatives have entered negotiations with the Holding, 25, regarding a new long-term deal.
The centre-half still has two-and-a-half years left on his current contract at the club, having last renewed terms in May 2018.
The former Bolton defender has made 15 appearances across all competitions this season, 10 of which have been starts in the Premier League.
When asked by Football Insider whether he believed Holding was deserving of a new deal at the Emirates, Campbell said:
“Holding has been injured for a period but I think he has done OK.
“He has held his own next to Gabriel at times but in the grand scheme of things he should not be first choice at Arsenal. He has not done too bad.
“We still have William Saliba who has not even played and they spent a hell of a lot of money to recruit the guy.
“I have no idea what is going on at Arsenal but Mikel Arteta has to be ruthless in his decisions. Nobody is safe and nobody should be safe.”
