Gus Poyet has revealed the best decision made by Daniel Levy in 15 years, which he believes has led to Tottenham’s new resurgence in the Premier League.

In an interview with the Evening Standard, the former Tottenham midfielder was full of praise for the senior figure Spurs.

“What has made Spurs so good? Two things,” Poyet said.

“One: having consistency with a very good manager in Mauricio Pochettino.

“Two: one of the greatest decisions Daniel Levy has made in the last 15 years is no longer selling the best players.

“I know it’s difficult, it’s easy to say you have to keep players but the one who runs the show [Levy] has to get the money and spend it. Everybody knew you couldn’t sell your best players every year because then there’s no way the team gets better.”

Over the years Spurs fans have seen the likes of Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Carrick and Sol Campbell all sold at a time when they were key members of the squad.

While Modric and Bale moved abroad to Real Madrid, Berbatov, Carrick and Campbell all moved to other Premier League teams, with Campbell even making the infamous transfer to bitter rivals Arsenal.

However despite the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and other top European clubs reportedly being keen on several members of Spurs’ current squad, the message from Levy has been that the club won’t sell.

This is even in the face of potentially massive offers, with one report on Harry Kane stating that Levy values the striker at £200million but would still not listen to offers.

Tottenham’s current team has been very successful in the last two seasons, despite not winning any sliver ware.

Under Pochettino’s management, Spurs finished runners-up in the league last season to earn a place in the Champions League.

This was made sweeter by the fact their local rivals Arsenal finished below them and failed to get into the Champions League for the first time in 21 years.

Tottenham face Arsenal this Saturday in the north London derby, and Spurs go into the game already four points clear of them in the league.
