What Man City star Erling Haaland said after leaving Borussia Dortmund ahead of reunion

Manchester City return to Champions League action against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday (November 5), and it will be the second time Erling Haaland has met his former club.

Haaland signed for Man City from Dortmund in the summer of 2022 and has since become arguably Europe’s most irrepressible striker.

Combining his incredible pace, power and elite-level finishing, Haaland is an unstoppable force when bearing down on goal, and he proved that on Sunday.

Man City beat Bournemouth 3-1 as the Norwegian goal machine scored twice, taking his tally for the season to 17 in 13 at club level.

Now, with Pep Guardiola’s men looking to go deep in Europe, the 25-year-old will be eyeing more destruction against his former club.

What Erling Haaland said after leaving Borussia Dortmund

Haaland has plundered four goals in three Champions League matches this term, including a brace against Monaco.

Dortmund will fear the prospect of defending against their former superstar, although the German side are unbeaten in their three matches.

When the two sides met in September 2022, Haaland scored on his first time facing Dortmund since leaving, and he’ll want to repeat that feat at the Etihad Stadium.

Unsurprisingly, the Man City goal machine still has a deep love for the Bundesliga giants, labelling it an ‘honour to wear the shirt’ after leaving the club in 2022.

“It has been nothing but an honour to wear this shirt,” Haaland wrote on X.

“At Borussia Dortmund, I’ve spent memorable moments, met special people, not to mention a fanbase that has been always our extra man on the pitch. The Yellow Wall is truly incredible. I’ll never forget any of this! Thank you all!”

Haaland’s goal record since joining Man City

Standing at 6ft 5 and possessing the strength of an Ox, Haaland is unstoppable when sent through on goal, something he’s demonstrated countless times.

Haaland is at his devastating best this season as Man City are playing more directly by sending long balls into his path.

Erling Haaland’s Man City record
159 appearances
141 goals
22 assists

A return of 141 goals in 159 appearances, as of November 4, is truly breathtaking and showcases why City have an opportunity to compete across all fronts.

Without him, it isn’t worth thinking about where they would be.
