Whelan 'absolutely gutted' at one thing he saw in Leeds clash against Tottenham

Noel Whelan has slammed the decision to rule out one of Harry Kane’s efforts as Tottenham lost 3-1 to Leeds United.

The former Whites hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, called the decision a ‘joke’.

When the score was 1-1, Kane ran onto the end of Dele Alli’s pass before lifting the ball over Illan Meslier.

The goal was ruled out for offside as replays appeared to show Kane in line with the last Leeds defender.

Whelan, a Leeds fan, claims the goal should have stood and believes the striker should be given the advantage in these situations.

“One of them is just a joke,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“I’m a Leeds United fan and if that happens to Leeds, which it has this season, you would be absolutely gutted.

“He showed why he’s the best in the world at finishing. So calm, so clinical. Unfortunately, the second one was offside.

“But the first one, you’re talking toenails. It’s a millimetre and even I think that’s wrong. There was no advantage for him.

“Years ago, the striker got the advantage. You want to see goals. Yes, it would have put Tottenham in the lead but would the goal have changed the outcome of the game?

“I’m not sure but the goal should have stood.”

Kane was unable to add to his 21 Premier League goals as Spurs’ top four hopes took another blow.

Tottenham are next in action on Sunday when they welcome Wolves to North London.
