Whelan backs Rangers star Barisic to snub Aston Villa move
Noel Whelan insists Rangers are under no pressure to sell Borna Barisic this summer despite Premier League interest.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Ibrox is a “mouthwatering” place to be at the moment.
As revealed by Football Insider on Sunday (13th June), Arsenal, Aston Villa and Wolves have joined Leeds United in the race for Barisic and have sent talent-spotters to assess him.
This site previously detailed how Leeds are tracking the left-back’s performances at this summer’s Euros.
Barisic, 28, is currently with the Croatia squad at Euro 2020 but played no part in his country’s 1-0 loss to England on Sunday.
The full back’s current Rangers deal runs until 2024 after he agreed fresh terms in January 2020.

Whelan claims it will take a substantial amount of money to lure Barisic away from Ibrox this summer.
“The player is worth what the club value him at,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He still has a few years on his contract as well. He’s in a title-winning side and they are under no obligation to sell him.
“Rangers aren’t a selling club. You have other players who have signed because they want to continue the journey.
“You also have Champions League football there too. Rangers is a very very mouthwatering side to be at.
“Everyone is on the same page. There is a good balance between the staff and the players.
“Right now, for Villa and others to prise him away is going to take a substantial amount of money. It would be a big boost if he stays.”
Barisic was instrumental as Rangers won their 55th league title and impressed in Europe last season.
He made 50 appearances in all competitions and chipped in with five goals and fourteen assists.
