Whelan backs Tottenham to hand new boss 'huge boost' after Son update via Romano
Noel Whelan claims a new deal for Heung-Min Son would be a huge boost for whoever takes the Tottenham job.
The former Leeds United hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists Spurs would find it impossible to replace one of the club’s two superstars along with Harry Kane.
Speaking to the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin YouTube channel, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claimed “Son is staying at Tottenham”.
Son‘s current deal runs until the summer of 2023.
The South Korean had a fantastic 2020/21 season, picking up 17 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League.
Whelan insists that without Champions League football, Tottenham could not replace Son if he was to leave.

“That would be the one plus for a manager coming in,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“Knowing there won’t be an exodus of the club’s best players. Son is probably the second biggest name there.
“In terms of what he’s done at the club over a sustained period of time. If they can get him nailed down that’s a huge boost for the manager coming in.
“It’s also big for the fans. They don’t want to see their club losing their best players.
“It’s difficult to bring in replacements for those big players when you aren’t in the Champions League.
“That’s the biggest selling point for players. Spurs have the best stadium in the Champions League, probably in the world.
“But they don’t have the players to match. There are many selling points for players to stay at the club.
“But there will be worries about what next season holds.”
Son has made 280 appearances for Tottenham since joining the club in 2015.
Last season he scored his 100th goal for the club.
