Ryan Edmondson has been a credit to Leeds United while on loan at Aberdeen, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Whites and Dons forward, is adamant that the 19-year-old should have got in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad last season.
Edmondson, who suffered an ankle injury during his first week at Aberdeen, netted twice and chipped in with an assist in his first start for the Dons against Hamilton last week.
Since arriving on loan at Pittodrie, the centre-forward has made seven appearances, including a start in today’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Celtic.
Whelan believes that the Edmondson has been a credit to Leeds while out on loan and epitomises the club’s ethos as a player.
“We talk about strength of character and strength of mind, that’s the way Leeds United seem to bringing their kids up and players,” he told Football Insider. “That’s what we’re looking for.
“That kind of character, any kind of setback, you don’t get your head down, you just work even harder. That seems to be a trait of Leeds United all the way through the club – working hard, intensity, mental strength.
“He really does deserve that (the starts) because he’s not had much luck throughout the last couple of years.
“He should have been getting in the squad, he was knocking on the door doing everything right for the under-23s.”
