Noel Whelan has urged Celtic to allow Tom Rogic to leave Parkhead at the end of the season.

The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the attacking midfielder should be one of several players who make their way out of Glasgow this summer.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Bhoys are expecting the 28-year-old to push for an exit at the end of the season after a move to Qatar fell through last summer.

The Hoops valued the Australia international at around £8million at the end of 2019 but it is understood Celtic would accept a fee of around £2million to let him leave this year.

The 2013 signing has played 23 times across all competitions under Neil Lennon this season, although only 11 of his appearances came among the starting XI.

Whelan believes there are set to be major changes among the squad come the end of the campaign and suggested Rogic should be one of those allowed to leave Parkhead if the right bid comes in.

Asked if Celtic should let the Aussie leave, Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “I think it’s time, I think there’s going to be a big shakeup at Celtic when they finish the season and how many points behind will tell you how much of a shakeup is needed.

“I think there’s going to be a lot of movement at Celtic in the summertime when the season is over. How drastic? Well, we’ll have to wait and see, but I think there might be some really big changes at the club come the end of the season.

“They’ve been under the microscope, rightly so, and probably will be come the end of the season. I think everyone’s just looking how far they will be behind to how bad the criticism will be that comes their way.

“It’s going to be the case, Rangers had it last year and that’s unfortunately what’s going to be coming their way, it’s just a matter of how many points can we claw back and can we show some respect to our season by finishing and strongly.”

Rogic, who has 46 caps under his belt for Australia, has played a total of 214 times for Celtic to date, with 40 goals and 38 assists to his name.

In other news, Greg Taylor may have ended 28-year-old’s Celtic career, according to Alex McLeish.
