Noel Whelan has claimed Julian Nagelsmann would be a good appointment as the next Tottenham manager.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League forward insisted it is time Spurs look at a younger manager instead of making a big-name appointment as they did with Jose Mourinho.
Football Insider revealed Tottenham have made contact with Nagelsmann over the vacant hot seat in north London.
Former midfielder Ryan Mason has been placed in interim charge until the end of the season after Mourinho was sacked on Monday.
ESPN journalist Archie Rhind-Tutt reports the Nagelsmann could be tempted by a move to “perfect match” Tottenham and the RB Leipzig boss was once a fan of the club.
Asked whether he reckoned Nagelsmann would be a good fit for Tottenham, Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “I think so.
“They’ve tried the experienced side, the big-name one. Maybe it’s time now they look to a different approach.
“We’ve seen how that he’s done in his years at Leipzig. They’ve come from nowhere with very little money to produce some fantastic players, get in the Champions League and be fighting at the top end of the Bundesliga.
“I think he’s earned the right to be looked at by Tottenham.”
Nagelsmann has been in charge of RB Leipzig for almost two full seasons and led them to the Champions League semi-finals in his first campaign.
They are currently second in the Bundesliga, 10 points behind leaders Bayern Munich with four games left to play.
