Whelan expects four Leeds United stars to be axed v Wolves after what he's seen
Noel Whelan has backed bench stars Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood, Wilfried Gnonto and Mateusz Klich to start for Leeds United against Wolves in League Cup action on Wednesday (9 November).
The former Whites striker and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the game is a “perfect opportunity” to keep the quartet “sharp” after their impressive cameo performances.
Leeds United travel to Molineux on Wednesday in their penultimate game before the World Cup finals later this month.
The clash comes after Jesse Marsch’s side registered back-to-back wins against Liverpool and Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Gnonto, who has assisted twice off the bench in his last two games, is yet to start for Leeds United – while Greenwood netted his first top-flight goal in the win over the Cherries on Saturday (5 November).
The Whites, who sit 12th in the Premier League, were knocked out of the League Cup at the fourth round stage against Arsenal last term.

Whelan claimed he expects a “fairly strong” lineup to take to the field as Marsch looks to maintain momentum ahead of Saturday’s (12 November) meeting with Tottenham.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “When it comes to the League Cup – it’s important, but it’s not the priority.
“Everyone knows the priority is staying in the Premier League.
“But it’s an opportunity for players we’ve seen coming off the bench, like Greenwood, Gnonto, Gelhardt, Klich.
“Whatever we put out, it’s going to be fairly strong.
“This is the perfect opportunity to keep these players sharp, get them some game time – especially of the back of a very good comeback at the weekend.”
